Recommendations - Photos and Installation

For the good operation of facial recognition, the registration of faces and the installation conditions of the terminal must be appropriate. This page will present some recommendations to ensure an excellent quality of registration and identification.

Photos for enrollment

Face images in JPG or PNG format are accepted for photo registration through the API for facial recognition. It is important that the photos used contain only one face and that they have good, uniformly distributed lighting.

The photos should be of people without masks and with their whole faces visible. Also, individuals should be looking directly into the camera. Wearing a mask at registration is allowed but not recommended. The use of prescription glasses is perfectly acceptable, but the use of sunglasses is not.

Image size

Images with a minimum size of 160x160 pixels will be accepted. The upper limit is determined by the product of the dimensions 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels. So, for example, 300x300, 600x600, 2000x1000 images will be accepted but 4000x3000 will not.

Enrollment Criteria

There are still other criteria that need to be observed regarding the quality of the face contained in the photo:

  • Face width in the photo: The photo must contain a face that is neither too close nor too far away. The region of the face must be completely contained in the photo, with a small margin on either side.
  • Centralization of the face: The face area must occupy the center of the image in both vertical and horizontal directions.
  • Centralization of the pose: The person in the photo should be facing the camera, looking straight ahead.
  • Sharpness of the face area: The face area must be clear and well lighted.

Product installation

The correct identification by facial recognition depends on the good quality of the images that the terminal's camera can capture. Therefore, it is essential to observe the recommendations that provide the best installation conditions.

Care with the environment

To favor capturing good images for the recognition the environment must be well lighted. However, there should be no light or brightness of great intensity that directly hits the device's camera.

It is strongly recommended to avoid direct sunlight on the camera at all times when using the terminal. Too much glare or high backlight contrasts in the captured images can affect face detection or the quality of the information extracted for user identification.

Positioning the terminal

It is recommended that the terminal be installed approximately 1.30 m from the floor, to correctly frame the faces of people of different heights. You can also make the vertical adjustment of the image captured by the camera directly from the menu of the terminal by going to Menu > Face Config. Facial Settings > Region of Interest.
